Runoff
Runoff is a text processing utility found on the minicomputers and mainframes of yesteryear. It is conceptually similar to utilities such as Lex, Tex, and LaTex. RNO is a version of Runoff for PCs. It certainly is not as generally useful as WYSIWYG editors and such (like Microsoft Word or Word Perfect). But if you have old runoff source files, RNO can help you retain your investment. RNO is public domain. You may redistribute it without restriction. RNO handles most of the directives found in RUNOFF, but if you use esoteric features, you may have to hand-tweak the results. RNO also includes a few additional features (such as columnar output). The download is a self-extracting archive, simply download it to the directory where you want RNO to reside and run it. You can delete RUNOFF.EXE when you are finished.
RNO32 is a 32-bit console-mode version of RNO, requiring Windows 95 or later. Otherwise, it is identical to the 16-bit RNO.
A warning: the source code is UGLY - you may wish to wear eye protection when viewing it. I wrote it a long time ago, but even that doesn't excuse it. If I had time, I'd rewrite it from scratch - but I don't. The sources are in a self-extracting archive. Note that they use a proprietary subroutine library - another issue that I've not had time to address.
One last note: The MAKEHELP utility comes with this distribution, but is not useful if you do not have the C&C HELP utility. MAKEHELP does not make windows Help files!
